Membership of the Institute cuts across all professions, including medicine, law, accountancy, engineering, architecture, pharmacy, banking, marketing, education, advertising, journalism etc.
- Honorary Fellow - Could be granted at the discretion of Council to a person who has attained a prominent position in the field of management or has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the knowledge, principles and practice of management in any sector. They are permitted to use the title 'FGIM' after their names.
- Fellow – May be granted to founding members and members of over 10 years continuous standing as members They are also permitted to use 'FGIM' after their names.
- Member - They are people having general management responsibilities and holding policy-making positions as functional managers of not less than 3 years on the role. They are permitted to use 'MGIM' after their names.
- Associate Member – Are those holding executive supervisory positions and having at least, 3 years of management and administrative experience in the private or public sector. They are allowed to use ‘AGIM’ after their names.
- Student Member - Is any person following a course of instruction approved by the National Council.
- Corporate Member - Is open to any Company, Incorporated Partnership, Firm, Association or Statutory Corporation or Board operating in Ghana or any educational or training Institute engaged in management education and recognized as such by the Government of Ghana.
The minimum qualification for admission is either a 1st or 2nd degree in any field or its equivalent professional qualification plus the minimum years of management experience. However, at the discretion of the National Council, a person of more than 35 years who has attained extensive managerial experience and holding policy-making positions without the minimum educational qualification may be exempted.
